Position Title: Children’s Advocate
Reports To: Program Manager
Classification: Full Time/Non-exempt
Status: Open
Salary: DOE

Summary of Responsibilities:
  • The Children's Advocate will screen and assess the needs of resident children and then provide a plan of action, advocacy and support services.
  • Conducts an orientation for all new resident children and their parent. The orientation will include a walking tour of the facilities, an overview of appropriate program rules and appropriate community resources.
  • Plans the children programs and schedules.
  • Maintains handbooks for children program policies and procedures, resources, orientations, volunteers and others as needed.
  • Provides and maintains policies and protocol for school enrollment of resident children. This will include meeting and have ongoing communication with appropriate staff at schools that the resident children attend.
  • Solicits, gathers and/or organizes material for children's programs (i.e. toys, games, arts and crafts, educational supplies, books, tapes and videos).
  • Provides therapeutic child care and respite care for the mothers during on-site counseling and other times if appropriate.
  • Assists in the recruitment, training and support of volunteers who serve in the children's program for mentoring, tutoring, Bible Studies, field trips, activities and child care.
  • Coordinates community-provided child care and out of school activities.
  • Be available for support of the children including conflict resolution and if needed conduct children's support groups.
  • Facilitates parenting support group or individual in-home parenting education and consultations.
  • Assists in preparation of statistics, evaluations and other program data.
  • Coordinates the Children’s Holiday Program and assists with community education efforts.
  • Attends weekly Program Staffing and gives a brief update on children's activities and/or needs.
  • Conducts monthly in-home visits with children and documents visit.
  • Attends monthly staff meetings.
  • Reports to Case Manager any observed or second-hand information regarding resident rule violations.
  • Reports abuse/neglect to Child Protective Services and the Program Manager.
  • Maintains confidentiality of resident families concerns/issues from other resident families and volunteers.
  • Meet with Program Manager on a weekly basis to discuss duties and responsibilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • BA in education or human services, A.A. degree may be combined with exceptional experience.
  • Experience working with children who are at risk and in crisis.
  • Experience working with diverse and/or special needs population and knowledge of homelessness, domestic violence, physical, sexual and emotional abuse and the effects on children.
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff in a participatory environment and engage in organizational growth.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification within 60 days of hire date.
  • AIDS/HIV Certification within 60 days of hire date.
  • Must be able to lift and move 35 pounds.
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule depending on program needs.
  • Evenings and/or weekend work required.
Children's Advocate hourly rate: $13 - $14


Position Title: Men’s Case Manager
Reports To: Program Manager
Classification: P/T, non-exempt
Status: Open
Salary: DOE

Vision House is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit Christian transitional housing program for homeless single mothers and their children, and for homeless single men recovering from drug and alcohol addiction. Current position is for a Case Manager for our men’s program. The two men’s homes are located in Burien and Renton/Kent area. Vision House offices are located in the Renton highlands.

JOB DESCRIPTION
CASE MANAGER/COORDINATOR
PART –TIME: 25 hrs per week

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Provide case management for the men’s program
  • Maintain a healthy, alcohol/drug free environment
  • Assist residents with orientation to VH
  • Do interventions and voluntary/involuntary terminations
  • Assist residents with health, employment, educational, and vocational goals
  • Maintain contact with agencies that provide VH referrals
  • Maintain connections with community resources
  • Conduct weekly house meetings and Bible study
  • Participate in weekly supervision
  • Maintain case files and provide reports
  • Assist with donations and the preparation of units.
  • Maintain case files, complete appropriate paperwork and provide reports.
  • Other duties as assigned

Desired Qualifacations:

  • B.A. Degree in Social Service field, A.A. degree may be combined with exceptional experience
  • Two (2) years of experience working with diverse and/or special needs population
  • Working knowledge of alcohol/drug addiction and recovery
  • Demonstrate good listening and interactive communication skills
  • Experience in guiding, directing, or teaching people
  • Personal characteristics: approachable, empathetic, flexible, discerning
  • Computer Skills: Word, Access and Excel
  • Washington State driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to lift and move 50 pounds.
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule depending on program needs
  • Ability to work two evenings a week and an occasional weekend.

Case Manager hourly rate: $12-- $16
