Expansion projects
Vision House Jacob's Well

We're Expanding..And You Can Help!
Vision House is expanding to Shoreline, thanks to local churches, businesses and community groups that are rallying with funding, in-kind donations and thousands of volunteer hours to build the Jacob's Well complex. When complete, the facility will include 20 housing units, a child care center, counseling offices and program space for homeless mothers and children. Sign up to help.

History of Jacob's Well
A few years ago, a group of north Seattle business leaders and clergy members came together concerned about the number of homeless mothers and children in their communities. They invited Vision House, a successful transitional housing program in Renton, into the community and pledged their support to help build a complex to provide housing combined with support services for homeless families. They named the effort Jacob’s Well.

Overview
The Jacob’s Well supportive housing complex, which broke ground spring 2010, is being built in two phases. The first phase includes 12 (one, two and three bedroom) apartments for homeless families, a licensed after-school care program, laundry facility, crisis counseling offices and a community center. The second phase will include 8 additional apartments, a licensed child care center for 65 resident kids and a resource, food and clothing bank to support resident families.

Funding
The total budget for the first phase of the Jacob’s Well project is $2.3 million. Approximately $1.2 million has been raised so far in cash, pledges and in-kind support. Since Vision House builds its facilities debt-free on a pay-as-you-go model, an additional $1.1 million in cash and in-kind support needs to be raised to complete the project. We plan to raise the additional support through a series of fundraising events, community and individual supporters, as well as applying for grants.

Status
With our nation experiencing extreme setbacks in the economy, Vision House has had to re-think how to build the Jacob’s Well project. With many of our typical funding sources unavailable for this project, Vision House has divided the project into several pieces, including clearing and grading, foundation and slab, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, framing in several stages, dry wall, painting (interior and exterior), windows, doors and roofing, etc. Various community groups, churches, individuals and businesses are mobilizing and are supporting “pieces” of the project with volunteer labor and funding.
